Installing FoxOS onto an external disk using FoxOS Installer

1. Prepare the installer USB stick

2. Boot the PC from the USB installer

  1. Shut down the computer that will host the external drive.
  2. Insert the newly‑created USB stick.
  3. Power on and press the BIOS/UEFI boot‑menu key (commonly F12, Esc, F9 or Del).
  4. Choose the USB device → press Enter to boot.

3. Run “Install FoxOS” – copy the OS to your external hard‑drive

3.1 Connect the target USB SSD external disk

3.2 Start the installation wizard

Launch installer In the lower panel's main menu, find Install FoxOS as the first icon in the menu.
Select destination Choose the external drive from the list (e.g., /dev/sdb) and confirm it base on the manufacturer and model listed.
Download OS image The installer fetches the latest FoxOS image from the internet (progress and speed indicated until completed).
Follow the prompts to set a password When “FoxOS Installer Complete!” appears, navigate to the main menu and 'reboot' and disconnect the USB thumb-drive with the FoxOS Installer.

4. First boot from the external drive

  1. Shut down the PC.
  2. Disconnect the FoxOS Installer drive (store it for future use if needed).
  3. Keep the external FoxOS disk attached.
  4. Power on and open the boot menu again.
  5. Select the external drive (often listed as **USB HDD**).
  6. FoxOS should start, presenting a simple password prompt (enter the password you set in the FoxOS Installer).

5. Run FoxConnect – finish the setup

6. Keep the USB installer handy
