Installing FoxOS onto an external disk using FoxOS Installer

Theme:

1. Prepare the installer USB stick

What you need
- Personal computer (Windows, Mac or Linux)
- USB thumb‑drive ≥ 8 GB for FoxOS Installer
- USB SSD ≥ 128GB disk for FoxOS
1.1 Download the FoxOS Installer image
1. Right-click and 'Save link as...' for FoxOS Installer
1.2 Download and run Rufus
1. Right-click and 'Save link as...' for Rufus
1.3 Write the ISO to the USB thumb‑drive
1. Insert the ≥ 8 GB USB stick.
2. Launch Rufus. Simply run the executable (no install needed). If you're on Mac OS or Linux, please let us know for alternative program recommendation.
3. Device: select your USB thumb-drive.
4. Boot selection: click SELECT → choose FoxOS-Installer.img.
5. Partition scheme: MBR (BIOS/UEFI).
6. File system: FAT32 (default).
7. Click START, confirm “Write in ISO Image mode”.
8. Wait for the process to finish (≈ 2‑5 min).

Shut down the computer that will host the external drive.
Insert the newly‑created USB stick.
Power on and press the BIOS/UEFI boot‑menu key (commonly F12, Esc, F9 or Del).
Choose the USB device → press Enter to boot.

Step	Action
Launch installer	In the lower panel's main menu, find Install FoxOS as the first icon in the menu.
Select destination	Choose the external drive from the list (e.g., `/dev/sdb`) and confirm it base on the manufacturer and model listed.
Download OS image	The installer fetches the latest FoxOS image from the internet (progress and speed indicated until completed).
Follow the prompts to set a password	When “FoxOS Installer Complete!” appears, navigate to the main menu and 'reboot' and disconnect the USB thumb-drive with the FoxOS Installer.

Shut down the PC.
Disconnect the FoxOS Installer drive (store it for future use if needed).
Keep the external FoxOS disk attached.
Power on and open the boot menu again.
Select the external drive (often listed as **USB HDD**).
FoxOS should start, presenting a simple password prompt (enter the password you set in the FoxOS Installer).

Use the panel at the bottom to your Wi‑Fi network (unless you're on Ethernet, then it will automatically connect).
Navigate to the main menu and search for 'FoxNet Connect' and run that.
Enter your FoxNet username (e.g., flast for First Last) and hit enter.
Contact your FoxAE on-boarding contact to accept your FoxNet Connect keys.
Allow the process to proceed (~2-5m) until it says "Complete!" That's it!

Store the USB thumb‑drive in a safe place.
Use it to re‑install FoxOS on another external drive if needed.
Should you have FoxOS booting issues, we will use the FoxOS Installer image to enter a recovery environment.
